SEO: When Should You Begin Search Engine Optimization for a New Site?

Dear Rich,

I’ve seen you say that one should start SEO (search engine optimization) before the launch of a new site. How is this possible?

Dear Confused,

Although you can perform SEO at any point before or after the launch of a Web site, I can think of three good reasons why it’s better to start with SEO:

  1. It’s less expensive. A good keyword analysis (an important part of a healthy breakfast an SEO package) will drive your content and your copy; if you do it after the site is built, you’re in effect doing the work twice.
  2. It’s market research. A keyword analysis may uncover some opportunities that you hadn’t thought of yet; new topics to cover, even new services to offer.
  3. It will help focus your social media strategy. You can take your optimal keywords and start working them into your tweets, your Facebook fan page, your YouTube videos and your LinkedIn profile…all things you can be working on while your Web designer builds out your new site.

There is some parts of SEO that can’t be performed until after the site is launched, specifically a link building campaign. Obviously, other sites, blogs and directories won’t want to link to a coming soon page; they’ll be looking for something of value if they’re going to be linking to you.

    Very well said Rich:

I agree to it that before doing seo of a new website we should do a market research on the keyword that your website will focus.

  2. Clara James Says:

Market research is not only necessary for keywords but also for the competitors’ strategies. See if until unless you do not know about the competitors’ each and every technique they use in the site you can’t beat them and can’t get good position in search engines like google or yahoo. We have site whose PR got down from 5 to 2 and I think the big reason of this downfall in lack of market research against competitors.

    Hi,
I prefer search engine optimization should be started from the very 1st day when a website born. That is because Google bot can visit that site anytime even when its just entered into the Internet.

    Hi Clara James,

I am not agree with your comment. I don’t think so that we should be aware about competitors’ strategies. Challenging the competition is not a big issue. We should be updated only with the Google SEO policies. Because Google develope the PR of a site. If you are aware and touch about New Google Policies than you can do a Good SEO for your site.So keep in mind that first read all Google SEO Policies than starting SEO for your site.

Competing with the competitors and always following the google policies of Seo can easily lead to the better position in Google and better competition with competitor. These both are the important things.

  7. Maria Joe Says:

    Hi Wholesale Suppliers !
it depends upon the niche market you focus if your SEO plane is great than you don’t need to worry in ranking of your site.

  8. Jim Says:

I think SEO is a long term ongoing process which should start before your launch and continue for the life of your site. Better ranking does not always lead to sales either. I learned a lot from SEO experts but I learned the most by doing it myself using http://www.quansite.com/jamaffiliates/jrox.php?id=2968_1_eaid_3

It allowed me to control my SEO each step of the way and be able to see results with each step.

So SEO just be before, after and ongoing!
