I've seen it time and time again. Of course, if you choose keywords for which there's already a ton of competition and domains that have been around for eons, it doesn't matter. However, regional word + keyword often has had wondrous results. Without looking for quality inbound links right away, and continuously developing content, any ground that's gained by clever domain will eventually be lost...
